In 1981, half of the Ming Dynasty pagoda of Famen Temple collapsed after 372 years of wind and rain erosion and disrepair, but the other half still stood, becoming a wonder. The collapse of the pagoda made the underground palace under the pagoda reappear in the world, shocking the archaeological community and changing the fate of Famen Temple, which had been silent for more than a thousand years. In 1987, more than 2,000 pieces of Tang Dynasty royal treasures surrounded the unique Buddha's finger relic, making it one of the "major archaeological discoveries in China in the 20th century."
